"Going home"

January 27, 2018   Hawthorne, CA

Here we are visiting the Beach Boys monument during our Tour de Hawthorne on Sunday.

We departed Cincinnati on Saturday the 27th and arrived LAX at about 6 pm. We took the shuttle to our car rental place and eventually got our white Malibu, and headed to Chuck Collins' place for dinner. At the very first street, Arbor Vitae, I turned right instead of left, and we sorta got lost. I wasted about 15 minutes getting there, but soon reached good ol' Hawthorne.
Here's Chuck, HHS 69, with one of his two dogs. He and Anita, HHS 71, live on Cedar Ave., having never left Hawthorne. Also at the dinner was Frank Braun, HHS 69. We had a lovely dinner and discussions about our "stories" and memories. Their home reminded us of ours growing up there, very traditional and full of their lifelong mementos.

It became quite late Ohio time, so by about 10 pm we drove the short distance to the Hawthorne Plaza Inn at Hawthorne Blvd and 120th. The old Hawthorne Mall, abandoned for many years, was across the street. Janet hadn't seen it, so it was a "new" eyesore to her compared to her memories of what the boulevard had been growing up.
