Day 2 Saturday, February 3, 2018 At sea
Beautiful day, beautiful birthday girl, and over-imbibing at lunch to celebrate! Yes, after this, Janet slept all afternoon.
During the morning, we took a behind-the-scenes tour of the ship, complimentary because we were Platinum members. We toured the laundry, the kitchens, and the theater dressing rooms. What kind of stains can they NOT clean from towels/napkins, and need to turn into rags? Lipstick.
A chef explains how they feed 4000 people every day. I don't have photos of the laundry room on the 4th level, but the statistics there were most impressive as they operate 24 hours a day and process "billions" of towels, napkins, wash cloths, sheets, etc. We walked along "I-95" to move from the laundry to the kitchens on 6th level.
They post the dining items on this wall.
Touring the dressing rooms behind the theater was interesting, seeing all the costumes and wigs and make up. The guide for this section described how they line up their costume changes near to the stage, and speedily change between scenes. I recall he said that due to the expensive costumes, the production actors are not allowed to gain or lose any more than five pounds so that they don't have to make new fits for anyone. Do you also see me in the photo above?
Another lunch photo. We could see the Baja mainland for much of the day, way off in the distance. While Janet napped in the afternoon, I rode the cycle machine in the fitness room. When we ventured back out later in the afternoon, we hot tubbed with a couple from Mission Viejo. He was a cyclist, originally from El Salvador, and she had foot problems that Janet could commiserate with.
Janet's birthday dinner was in the Brazilian restaurant, Moderno. As Platinum members, they gave us two free specialty restaurant dinners, and we used one of them on this night. The way it worked was, they come to your table with different pieces of meats, and you tell them if you want some or not. Eventually, they came by with all the offerings, and we enjoyed the meal and the experience.
