Simi Valley, Katie, and Burbank

Monday January 29, 2018

A highlight was visiting with Katie, who just happened to be spending the week in Simi Valley. It was a Christmas gift from Jeremy, who wanted her to get a week off from child care since he always got weeks off taking his business trips.
The day began when we drove all of a few hundred yards to the Chips Restaurant for breakfast. Just down the street, 119th, was the St. Joseph Catholic Church. It looked exactly the same.
Inside Chips, with one of their many old mementos/photos on display.

We then drove out to Simi Valley, and I showed Janet various memory spots, such as our homes, the schools, the place where I broke my neck, my hospital, and where I had kept my motorhome up Tapo Canyon during our "courtship" in early 2010. Apparently I did not take any photos except the one with Katie.

Katie arrived that very morning, and we had arranged to meet at the park at 2 pm. We had a nice hour-long visit strolling around the park. We went to Annette's gate to see if the dogs would come out, but they didn't.

We then drove to Burbank to look for a place to stay for the night, to be close to Glendale for our scheduled visits the next morning. We found a cheapo TravelLodge. We considered having dinner at the adjacent authentic Mexican greasy spoon, but they didn't have beer, so we drove into "beautiful downtown Burbank" to eat. We strolled around and had our choice of dozens of cool-looking restaurants, and finally chose an Indian one. We had previously sat down at a 50s-style diner joint, but walked out after looking at the boring menu.
